SYRACUSE - A contentious showdown is brewing in Kosciusko County between boaters there and the DNR that polices the waters. The boaters say they are being harassed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. But the DNR says its officers are just enforcing the laws. Many people, though, feel the officers are going overboard. Things got heated inside the Syracuse Community Center Saturday as boaters and officers from the DNR debated the recent increase in DNR patrols.

WARSAW - An autopsy was scheduled Monday on a Kosciusko County man found dead inside a home. Police were called to the Hide-Away Hills Mobile Home Park Sunday afternoon for a welfare check. When they arrived, they found the man dead. Kosciusko County news site Stacey Page Online is reporting this is a suspicious death. Crime Scene investigators, detectives and the coroner are investigating. Detectives are interviewing an individual about the case, but there's no word yet whether that person is a suspect.

SILVER LAKE - A shoplifting arrest has landed a Kosciusko County in a whole lot of hot water with police. Warsaw police were called to a local business early Monday morning regarding a shoplifting. While on the scene, officers learned 30-year-old Michael Crum of Silver Lake was wanted in Wabash County for another crime. Police scoured through Crum's vehicle and found several items used to make methamphetamine and determined there was probably more meth-related items at his home.

PIERCETON - Kosciusko County police arrested a North Manchester man at gunpoint after officers caught him breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home with a gun. Shortly after noon on Monday, deputies got a call about a possible burglary just west of Pierceton. They arrived at 6511 East Pierceton Road and found a shattered door to the home. Moments later, a suspect identified as 38-year-old Troy Frieden left the home covered in blood and was held at gunpoint until arrested.

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY -- Two women were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon after a motorcycle crash in southern Kosciusko County. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a motorcycle and car collision at the intersection of State Road 14 and County Farm Road. Officers arrived and discovered two women were severely injured with amputated portions of their lower legs. A Samaritan helicopter arrived and airlifted 54-year-old Terri A. Penrod of Silver Lake and 53-year-old Sue A. Raber of Silver Lake from the scene to Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition.

Divers in Kosciusko County recovered a body Sunday night from Wyland Lake. The search on the lake, which is just northeast of North Webster in the tri-county Fish and Wildlife Area, started early Sunday afternoon when an empty boat was observed on the water with the motor still running. Around 8 p.m. a body was recovered from the water. The victim is believed to be a 40-year-old local man who went out fishing early Sunday morning. The victim's name is not being released until all his family is notified.

MILFORD - A 15-year-old Kosciusko County boy has been arrested after getting mad at his parents and hitting two police cars with a skid loader. Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police were called to the area of County Road 250 West and County Road 900 North around 8:40 p.m. Saturday in regards to a teen who was out of control. Police arrived and met with parents of the Milford boy, who said their son had fled their home in a farm implement skid loader crossing into a nearby field.

Matt is no stranger to Michiana -- growing up in Warsaw, which is in Kosciusko county. He joined the WSBT weather team in June of 2012, but has been a weather fanatic since he was a little kid. He says, “I decided to make my passion my career!” Matt is a Meteorologist with a Bachelors Degree in Atmospheric Science from Purdue University. He comes to us from WSIL-TV in Carterville, Illinois. While at WSIL, he was a staff meteorologist and multi-platform journalist. During college, he interned here at WSBT as well as WLFI-TV in West Lafayette. Matt also interned for the National Weather Service.

The following release was issued by Kosciusko County police Monday morning: A Warsaw couple is currently being held in the Whitley County Jail on numerous charges including an armed robbery from Kosciusko County. Christopher Alan Gressley, 30, and Anita Lynn Moore, 28, Warsaw, were arrested Friday evening and are being held on numerous charges by both Whitley and Kosciusko County. The arrest originated Friday evening at approximately 6:41 p.m. when South Whitley officers Blake Forrester and Chuck LeWallen were investigating a stopped van just outside of town. During the course of their stop, Gressley and Moore were both found to have suspended driver's license. Officers also noted that their two small children appeared to have not been taken care of properly and Child Protective Services were contacted. During the inventory of the van, officer's located synthetic marijuana and devices used to smoke the substance. Both Gressley and Moore were transported to the Whitely County Jail as the children were taken into protective custody.

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY - Two people were airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after crashing into a tree during an early morning police chase Saturday in Kosciusko County. It started with a domestic battery call on East County Road 1300 North near Warner Road shortly after 2 a.m. when an officer saw a vehicle take off from the scene. Police say the driver, 19-year-old Andrew Gabbard, refused to stop, ran a stop sign and hit two trees. The car rolled over, trapping both people inside.
