70 people in Kosciusko County are going to lose their jobs. Atlanta-based Georgia Gulf is planning to shut down the Royal Building Products factory in Milford. The factory makes vinyl decks, fences and railing for homes. A company spokesman told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette weakness in the housing market is hurting demand for their products. Much of the local factory's production will be moved to other plants.

Kosciusko County police say a Syracuse man is in critical condition after an accident early Tuesday morning near North Webster. Police say this happened around 2 a.m. on Syracuse/Webster Road near County Road 800 north. Jill Bradley was following behind her husband, 49-year-old Michael G. Bradley, at a distance when he drove off the right side of the road for an unknown reason and hit a tree. Michael was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne where he is in critical condition.

SYRACUSE - A Kosciuscko County company is planning on investing millions in an expansion, and adding jobs. Poly-Wood Incorporated, a manufacturer of outdoor furniture, announced a $2.78 million project that will expand operations at its Syracuse location. The company says it will create 50 new jobs by 2015. Poly-Wood currently employs 87 full-time workers in Indiana. Hiring is set to begin in March.

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY - Police say a Silver Lake man was arrested late Monday night after he allegedly sold cocaine to an undercover officer. According to police, 36-year-old Fernando Ortiz Paredes was arrested at his home in the 3000 block of Meyrtle Glen Drive after police obtained a warrant. An anonymous tip, police say, said that Paredes was selling cocaine in Kosciusko County. Police were able to track and confirm the information prior to the arrest. Paredes is being preliminarily charged with dealing cocaine, police say. His bond is set for $50,000 and is currently still at the Kosciusko County Jail.

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY - Two people have been arrested after an attempted burglary turned shooting in Kosciusko County. Aaaron Rhoades, 28, and Karen Prater, 34, were arrested and charged in this case. According to the sheriff's department, police responded to a 911 call just before 3:30 at a home in Silver Lake. The homeowners had just arrived home to find Rhoades there with a shotgun. One of the homeowners beat Rhodes in the head with a salt and pepper shaker as the other wrestled with him over the gun. As Rhoades fled the home, the homeowner fired the 12 gauge shotgun striking him in the legs.

SYRACUSE - Kosciusko County police were dispatched for a possible child solicitation call on Saturday evening involving an older man asking two young girls if he could pay them $10 to have their panties. Police arrived at the home near Dewart Lake at 5:39 p.m. and spoke to the two young girls and their father, who told them his daughters were approached by their neighbor while they were playing in their backyard. The girls said the neighbor approached them saying they were pretty and had soft hair.

SYRACUSE - Police say an undercover meth bust sparked a 10-minute pursuit of the scooter-riding suspect that wound through yards, a golf course and ended in a lake. This happened Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. on County Line Road just east of State Road 13. Police say officers from the Kosciusko Drug Task Force and Syracuse Police Department made an undercover meth purchase from 30-year-old Justin Simpson of Goshen. After the purchase, officers moved in to arrest Simpson but he took off on his scooter.

ATWOOD - Police in Kosciusko County say it appears someone tried to abduct a 13-year-old girl waiting for a school bus Wednesday morning. The young girl fought back - an act police say could have made the difference. “Thank god the little girl got away,” said Dawn Himes. Himes lives in the Westhaven Estates mobile home park, not too far away from where police say a man tried to abduct the 13-year-old. “It's actually really scary,” she said.

Police say a Claypool man was killed Wednesday morning when he failed to slow down in time to avoid slowed traffic in a construction zone. Shortly after 9 a.m. William Wells, 32, was driving his Harley southbound on State Road 15, just north of the town of Leesburg, when police say he came up on a construction zone and tried to brake at the last minute. He struck the back of a pickup and then slid into the northbound lane to collide with another pickup. Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler pronounced Wells dead at the scene from severe blunt force trauma to the head.

WINONA LAKE - A fiery crash last night in Winona Lake didn't just damage two cars, it also took out part of a building. It happened at an apartment on County Road 275 East. Police say a speeding SUV lost control on the road and slammed into a parked van, and then into the apartment building which caught fire. The cars also caught on fire. Two teens in the SUV were able to get out in time. They were taken to the hospital but are expected to be OK. Investigators estimate the crash and the fire did between $50,000 and $100,000 in damage.
