LAPORTE -- The story of a famous serial killer accused of murdering more than 20 people in LaPorte could become a movie. LaPorte native Steve Ruminski is trying to raise money to tell the story of Belle Gunness. Around the turn of the 20th century she allegedly lured men to her LaPorte farm after getting them to sell everything they owned, bring cash, and not tell anyone where they were going. Then they were never heard from again. But the real mystery is if Gunness got away with murder.

It's been a long time since LaPorte diver Josh Arndt felt disappointment. "The last high school meet I didn't win," he recalled, "was my sophomore year. " That's a streak of 38 straight first-place finishes, heading into state this weekend.  "I pride myself most on the hard work I put into it," he said. "The streak doesn't come with just getting on the board and doing it. " The streak also includes last year's state title.

LAPORTE COUNTY - The firings of three LaPorte County jail guards appear to have been triggered by a letter from a former jail inmate that arrived at the jail on September 27.  LaPorte County Sheriff, Mike Mollenhauer, says inmate James Mrozinski wrote the letter to a female guard.  Mrozinski is no longer at the jail in LaPorte.  He was transferred to a state prison facility in July.  The letter referenced a relationship between the guard and inmate.  Mollenhauer says there is no proof of sexual misconduct, but he says the guard did traffic in contraband with the inmate.
