The ink is on the page for former Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd. He signed a five-year rookie contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, just a day before the Cards begin minicamp and a week before training camp. “I was really anxious to get this out of the way and just worry about football,” Floyd told AZ Cardinals.com. “I'm glad it is done with.” The financial terms of Floyd's contract were not announced, but rookie contracts are much simpler and more straightforward now in the new collective bargaining agreement.

NOTRE DAME -  The NFL Draft begins Thursday evening and Notre Dame football program has a chance to accomplish something very rare:  Have multiple players taken in the 1st round, in consecutive drafts. It's only been done three times before in Notre Dame history, the last time coming in 1993 & 1994.  The two players who could make that happen are TE Tyler Eifert, and LB Manti Te'o.  Michael Floyd and Harrison Smith were both drafted in the first round last year. Both Eifert and Te'o are considered first round picks in nearly all the major mock drafts.  While a few NFL teams expressed concern over Manti Te'o following his highly publicized hoax, most teams still consider him to be one of the top players in the draft.

NEW YORK -   Former University of Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd was selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.  Floyd is the highest-drafted player from Notre Dame since defensive tackle Bryant Young was the seventh-overall selection by San Francisco in the 1994 draft. Floyd is the first Notre Damewide receiver to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft since Tim Brown in 1988 (sixth overall by Oakland) and is the earliest an offensive player from Notre Dame has been drafted since quarterback Rick Mirer and running back Jerome Bettis were selected with the second and 10 th  picks, respectively, of the 1993 draft by Seattle and the Los Angeles Rams.

SOUTH BEND -- Friday's news that Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd will not be suspended from the University for his March 20th drunk driving arrest cleared the path for him to return to the field. However, Irish coach Brian Kelly said today that for now, Floyd remains suspended from the team. And he's still got a way to go on that path before being reinstated. "This is not about football," Kelly said. "Everybody has jumped to the conclusion that Mike Floyd is going to play football.

Less than a month before national signing day, Brian Kelly's best recruiting job may have come in-house. All-American tight end Tyler Eifert will return to Notre Dame for this senior year. Eifert told WSBT Sports immediately following the Champs Sports Bowl loss that he had to take time to figure out where his heart was at.  Apparently, its still at Notre Dame, and the Irish all-american will follow it back to campus. "This was a tough decision for me, but it came down to where do I want to be most next year," Eifert said.

ORLANDO - Regardless of how this game plays out on Thursday, one thing cannot be denied: The Notre Dame players and coaches alike have had a fantastic time down here. WEST LAFAYETTE - Purdue committed more turnovers in the first fifteen seconds, than Notre Dame did all game.  And that fact contributed to a 38-10 blowout win by Notre Dame. On the 1st play from scrimmage, Purdue QB Caleb TerBush throws into triple coverage, and Notre Dame CB Gary Gray picks it off.  Notre Dame took over possession on Purdue's 35 yard line and needed just two plays to cash in.  Tommy Rees threw a strike to Michael Floyd, and the Irish had a 7-0 lead just 24 seconds into the game.  Floyd ended the night with 12 receptions for 137 yards.  The 16th 100 yard game of Floyd's career is a school record.
