JASPER COUNTY - Indiana State Police say they arrested a man on Thursday for child molestation and incest with a 13-year-old girl. According to police, their investigation started last year on the 37-year-old man from Wheatfield after Michigan State Police contacted them about the allegations. The man was taken to Jasper County Jail and charged with child molesting and incest, say police. His bond is set at $50,000.

This happened shortly after 8:37 a.m. Police told a WSBT photographer at the scene the crash was caused by a car that slowed down in the fog, causing a chain reaction. NILES, Mich. - Michigan State Police are investigating a serious two-car crash in Cass County. Authorities say a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Larry Pierce of Niles failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of a truck. It happened around 6:15 a.m. Friday on East Main Street near Reum Road in Milton Township. Pierce was rushed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where he was in intensive care. Police say both drivers were not wearing their seat belts.

A two-vehicle head-on crash on M-60 east of Pine Lake Street in Cass County's Howard Twp. killed 33-year-old Jeremy Adams of South Bend Sunday afternoon Michigan State Police say another car drifted over the center line and hit Adams. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who police say crossed the center line was 69-year-old Charles Barnes of Niles. Two passengers in Barnes' vehicle were treated at the scene for their injuries. Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. - Michigan State police are investigating a multi-car crash that happened on Old U.S. 31 in Berrien County Wednesday afternoon. It happened just north of Berrien Springs, and police are urging drivers to avoid that area. 3 people were trapped. All were taken to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. Berrien Springs and Orinoko police were called to the scene. Police say Old 31 was expected to be blocked to traffic because of the wreck until at least 7 p.m.

A Bridgman who suffered burns over 80 percent of his body after his pickup truck caught fire Wednesday in Eau Claire, has died. Michigan State Police said the 65-year-old was transporting burn barrels from his home to a work site. He was driving eastbound on Main Street in Eau Claire when the bed of his pickup caught on fire. The man kept driving until the cab of the truck was in flames. That's when police say the man lost control and crashed into two parked vehicles on First Street.

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. - Michigan State Police say one person was killed when a St. Joseph city truck collided with a car on Wednesday. Police say around 11:15 a.m., a car pulled out at Shoreham Road on to Lakeshore Drive into the path of a northbound Department of Public Works truck. The city truck then hit the car. Investigators say the truck driver was unable to avoid the car. The impact sent the 2009 Mercury Sable off the road. The driver of the car was trapped and had to be extricated.

Fog likely contributed to a serious accident that closed Michigan 60 at Arthur L. Jones Road near Fabius, Mich., west of Three Rivers, for a few hours Friday morning, Michigan State Police say in a news release. Two people were hurt in the two-vehicle crash, which happened about 6:50 a.m. Police say a vehicle driven by Jacob Finney, 20, of Wauseon, Ohio, was southbound on A.L. Jones Road, when it failed to stop at the stop sign. Finney’s vehicle was struck broadside on the driver’s side by a pickup truck traveling westbound on Michigan 60 and driven by Scotty Benthin, 36, of Jones, Mich.

It’s now been five-and-a-half months since the murders of a southwest Michigan couple and local police are still trying to crack the case. Joanie Peterson of Niles has a Good Question: “We need to know what police are doing, are they still actively working this case”? The answers are not what people living near Carberry Road want to hear. John and Carolyn Tarwacki were found murdered on February 5 in their home just east of the Niles city limits. The Michigan State Police post in Niles is leading the investigation, and their commander says not much new has developed over the last 30 days.

ROME TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say they've seized about 7,000 marijuana plants worth an estimated $7 million from a property in Lenawee County. Michigan State Police say troopers from the Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigations made the seizure on Monday from a greenhouse, barn and several fields in Rome Township, located about 65 miles southwest of Detroit. A husband and wife in their 60s were arrested. Names weren't released Tuesday morning pending arraignment.
