ROME TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say they've seized about 7,000 marijuana plants worth an estimated $7 million from a property in Lenawee County. Michigan State Police say troopers from the Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigations made the seizure on Monday from a greenhouse, barn and several fields in Rome Township, located about 65 miles southwest of Detroit. A husband and wife in their 60s were arrested. Names weren't released Tuesday morning pending arraignment.

Several police agencies worked to resolve a stand-off Monday morning in Berrien County that began after an assault. Police were called to the 6400 E. Napier Ave. at 10:52 a.m. on a report that a man had pointed a gun at a woman. The woman was able to flee the scene and call police. Deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Coloma Township Police and Michigan State Police set up a perimeter around the residence and used a squad car’s public address system to contact the suspect.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. – A one-mile stretch of highway in southern Michigan has been reopened after a possible explosive turned out to be nothing. A crew of volunteers came across what they said looked like dynamite near a gas pipeline. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the section of U.S. 131 in White Pigeon was closed around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, and a Michigan State Police bomb squad was called. State police Trooper Todd Petersen says a trooper responded to the scene, looked at the suspicious find and requested assistance from the bomb squad.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - A 35-year-old East Orange, N.J., man has been found dead in the Isabella County Jail in Mount Pleasant. The Saginaw News reports ( http://bit.ly/nALStg ) that Bradford Gibson was found unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse about 3 a.m. Saturday in the facility about 60 miles north of Lansing. Gibson had been arrested about an hour earlier by police in Mount Pleasant for being a disorderly person, resisting a police officer and aggravated assault on an officer.

GLADSTONE, Mich. (AP) - Police say two people are dead following a head-on collision on a slippery, slush-covered highway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Michigan State Police said in a statement that Blanche Johnson died along with her passenger Virginia Schmitt after the vehicle in which they were riding in lost control Wednesday, crossed the centerline and collided with a another vehicle on U.S. 2 in Delta County. Police said Johnson and Schmitt were from Rapid River.

On Monday we could learn the name of a driver killed in a fiery weekend crash in Cass County. It happened just after midnight Sunday. Michigan State Police tell us an SUV crashed into trees near the intersection of Redfield Street and Fir Road. By the time officers got there, the car was on fire. Police say no one saw the accident, only the aftermath. Neighbors tell us this stretch of road is a common place where cars attempt to pass each other, but it's not clear if that played a role in this crash.

A 2003 Ford Ranger pickup slid off an icy road Wednesday night and plunged down a 10-foot embankment and into the Black River in Van Buren County’s Geneva Township. Michigan State Police report the 41-year-old male driver and a 26-year-old woman passenger escaped uninjured before the truck became submerged completely. The mishap occurred about 8 p.m. on County Road 388, just east of 70 th Street. Police said, via a news release, the man and woman opened a window, jumped into the river and made their way to the embankment.

Police have captured a man suspected in an armed robbery of a Cass County laundromat on Friday. A car belonging to 39-year-old Edward Payson Wing was spotted Monday afternoon by police. He is believed to be responsible for the robbery of the Hilltop Laundry in Union last week. After being spotted, Wing drove his car into a cornfield then ran away in the area of Walnut Road near Sears Street in Calvin Twp . Michigan State Police deployed a helicopter and two K-9 units to look for him. He was arrested early Tuesday morning.

BRIDGMAN, Mich. - The morning fog seems to have caused an ugly-looking traffic crash in front of the Cook Nuclear power plant near Bridgman. A car and pickup truck collided on Red Arrow Highway around 7 a.m. One person was hurt, had to be extricated from the car with the “Jaws of Life,” and was sent to the hospital. Baroda-Lake Township Police Department Interim Police Chief Shawn Martin says Cook plant emergency crews helped police and medics on the scene.

BENTON HARBOR - Michigan State Police say alcohol was a factor when a driver tried to escape police and ended the night with the car stuck inside a building. An officer with the Niles Post tried to stop the driver for improper lane usage in Benton Township around 11 p.m. Thursday night. Police say the driver sped off into the city of Benton Harbor. The driver lost control on a curve on Union near Empire, say police, struck a building and then struck another building, coming to rest inside it. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital, say police.
