We now know a Middlebury teen who was seriously injured after being hit while riding her bike last summer is doing much better. Zion Carlstrom has spent much of this past year going through intense physical therapy, trying to regain her balance and strength. Zion's mother says she no longer limps and her breathing has improved. She missed a lot of school during her recovery, but her mom says she is on track to graduate from high school in June - and is already working a summer job.

MIDDLEBURY - A Goshen woman is dead after a two-car crash near Middlebury early Wednesday morning. Elkhart County police say around 1:20 a.m., 40-year-old Arellano Eustolia was heading south on State Road 13, about a mile south of Middlebury's town limits when she made a left-hand turn to head east onto County Road 20. They help children with special needs. Confidence and courage gained on the back of a horse. But non-profit LoveWay Stables in Middlebury needs some help - they need more horses for their therapeutic riding program. Indiana Governor Mike Pence is visiting our area today on several stops, including a big jobs announcement. His first stop today is in Mishawaka where he's speaking to the Economic Club of Michiana. Later this afternoon he will be in Middlebury with executives at Grand Design RV to help announce hundreds of new jobs. The company has been in business for about four months and recently celebrated hiring its 100th employee and making its 100th RV. During that celebration, officials said another line would be added in the near future -- which would mean more jobs.

MIDDLEBURY - Some people in Middlebury are without water after a water main break. Town Water Superintendent Ronald Chupp says the break was at 800 West Wayne Street, forcing his department to shut off water service to people along West Wayne Street, Twin Oaks subdivision and all of Highland Hills. Chupp says the affected area is under a Boil Advisory until service is restored.

MIDDLEBURY - An Elkhart County school system is rethinking its security after reports of a student who brought a gun to school. It happened at Northridge High School. The student involved has been suspended. “Our student safety is our priority, our number one priority,” said Middlebury Schools Superintendent Jane Allen. Allen is helping Elkhart County police with the investigation. What we know is that on Monday, the school system became aware that a recently enrolled student at Northridge showed a gun to other students last Friday.

MIDDLEBURY - An Elkhart County man pleaded not guilty in court this morning to injuring someone in an accident, then leaving the scene. 26-year-old Pasquale Rulli is facing a felony charge. Police say he hit 17-year old Zion Carlstrom while she was riding her bike over the summer on County Road 35 near Middlebury. She suffered serious head and leg injuries... but is now home recovering. Police say Rulli admitted to driving the car and leaving the scene.

Police say Medflight has been called to transport a child struck by a vehicle in Middlebury to the hospital. This happened in the 13000 block of County Road 22 just before 2 p.m. Neighbors told a WSBT reporter at the scene two children were walking hand-in-hand down the road on their way to rake leaves. When someone called out to them, the kids reacted by moving in different directions -- one into the path of the vehicle. That child's condition is unknown at this time.

MIDDLEBURY - This coming Saturday will be a big day for LoveWay stables in Middlebury when it holds a major fundraiser. The organization helps the disabled through therapeutic horseback riding. The recession hurts donations, but supporters are riding to the rescue to keep the program going. Tuesday, special needs students from Riverview School in Elkhart took part in riding classes at LoveWay, classes designed to help them improve memory, motor skills and balance, as well as confidence, communication and responsibility.
