Police say Medflight has been called to transport a child struck by a vehicle in Middlebury to the hospital. This happened in the 13000 block of County Road 22 just before 2 p.m. Neighbors told a WSBT reporter at the scene two children were walking hand-in-hand down the road on their way to rake leaves. When someone called out to them, the kids reacted by moving in different directions -- one into the path of the vehicle. That child's condition is unknown at this time.

MIDDLEBURY -- Police say a stray bullet struck the scoreboard of a Middlebury little league field Saturday morning. According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, just before noon Saturday, police arrived at the Wendell Bontrager Little League Park in the 12000 block of County Road 12 on a complaint that a bullet had gone through one of the field's scoreboards. A police investigation showed that a person target shooting nearby was responsible for the damage. A viewer tells us that the shooting happened while a baseball tournament was being held at the facility.

A young boy was airlifted to an area hospital after being struck by a pickup truck on County Road 39 in Elkhart County, about four miles south of Middlebury. Authorities say 9-year-old Jalyn Miller walked into the road about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday and was struck by the truck, driven by 28-year-old Jeffrey Fought of Shipshewana. Jalyn was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of serious injuries, the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said in a press release. He remained in critical condition Thursday morning, hospital staff said.

Police say the driver who left a C.R. 35 crash scene late Tuesday night, came forward Wednesday to talk with crash investigators. Pasquale Rulli, 26, of Middlebury, identified himself as the driver who struck 17-year-old Zion Carlstrom as she road a bicycle with another cyclist. Rulli was driving a black 2008 Cadillac STS 4-door when he struck Carlstrom from behind about 10:20 p.m., police said via a news release issued Wednesday night. Both Rulli and Carlstrom were going south on C.R. 35, north of U.S. 20. Carlstrom was airlifted from the scene via MedFlight to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

MIDDLEBURY - A special group of cyclists from the United States and Australia are teaming up to ride across the country in honor first responders, and they're getting help from a local RV company. The Tour of Duty is riding across the U.S. from San Diego to New York on a 2,600 mile trek. It's made up of police, firefighters, and military from both countries. The ride pays tribute to the hundreds of people who responded to the attacks on 9-11 in New York and Washington D.C. and those fighting now for security and peace.

MIDDLEBURY - An Elkhart County school system is rethinking its security after reports of a student who brought a gun to school. It happened at Northridge High School. The student involved has been suspended. “Our student safety is our priority, our number one priority,” said Middlebury Schools Superintendent Jane Allen. Allen is helping Elkhart County police with the investigation. What we know is that on Monday, the school system became aware that a recently enrolled student at Northridge showed a gun to other students last Friday.

We're learning more about a crash that took the lives of three women from Elkhart Friday night on U.S. 20 near Middlebury. The crash involved a car, a semi and a wide load signal truck assisting the semi. Police say the semi was headed east on U.S. 20 when it started to cross the center line. The car carrying the women struck the semi's trailer and then spun out and was hit by the signal truck. Driving the car was Ernest Sailor, 87, of Elkhart. As of Sunday night, he's in stable condition at Elkhart General Hospital.

MIDDLEBURY - An Elkhart County man pleaded not guilty in court this morning to injuring someone in an accident, then leaving the scene. 26-year-old Pasquale Rulli is facing a felony charge. Police say he hit 17-year old Zion Carlstrom while she was riding her bike over the summer on County Road 35 near Middlebury. She suffered serious head and leg injuries... but is now home recovering. Police say Rulli admitted to driving the car and leaving the scene.

MIDDLEBURY - A semi collided with a buggy Tuesday, but a 74-year-old woman inside the buggy escaped serious injury. The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. at U.S. 20 east of County Road 43 in front of Indiana Wood Products southeast of Middlebury. The woman inside the buggy was taken to the hospital, but Capt. Jim Bradbury of the Elkhart County Sheriff's Dept. told WSBT the injuries don't appear to be life-threatening. Bradbury said a news release with the details of the crash would later be released.
