STATEHOUSE - Mishawaka High School sophomore Anna Rohrer was honored at the Statehouse with a resolution authored by State Representative Dale DeVon (R-Granger). Rohrer was recognized in House Concurrent Resolution 38 for outstanding athletic achievement in the Foot Locker High School Cross Country National Championship. “It was a pleasure to have Anna and her parents visit the Statehouse,” said Rep. DeVon. “Anna is already incredibly accomplished in her academic and athletic career.

MISHAWAKA - Mishawaka High School is celebrating a national champion. Sophomore Anna Rohrer won the Foot Locker National High School Cross Country Championship in San Diego over the weekend. During a pep rally at MHS Monday afternoon, Mayor Dave Wood read a proclamation naming Saturday, December 8 Anna Rohrer Day in the Princess City. She got a little emotional with all the attention. “I was just overwhelmed,” said Rohrer. “I guess I did cry, cause I was not expecting that award the mayor gave me at all. I can't believe all the support and how happy people are for me and our school.

SOUTH BEND - Crowds showed up at the South Bend Regional Airport this afternoon to greet Mishawaka High School sophomore Anna Rohrer, who won the Foot Locker National High School Cross Country Championship in San Diego. On hand were a number of family members, classmates, and team mates to welcome her home. She actually fell during the race but she still managed to finish first. “It's just insane, the whole experience,” Rohrer said. “It's kind of like living your wildest Dream, and so it's been great meeting all the athletes and having my family come along with me and everyone here when getting back.

The city of Mishawaka will officially cut the ribbon on a $7.5 million renovation project in downtown. The city used a combination of grants, tax dollars and a loan to pay for the renovation of the old Mishawaka High School. 102 year old building has been turned into senior apartments. It is now called the Mishawaka Main Junior High Apartments and will be managed by the Mishawaka Housing Authority. There are 32 apartments inside, each is unique, with high ceilings and large windows.

The Mishawaka football team is on their way to Indianapolis to play for the state championship this afternoon...for the first time since 1974! CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS The coaches & team left town from Mishawaka High School around 7:30 this morning. Five police cars escorted the team through the city and out to the Bypass. The team ate breakfast together and had a special prayer time before climbing on chartered buses that were covered with their names and inspirational messages.

Mishawaka High School has chosen its next head wrestling coach. Superintendent Dr. Terry Barker announced Monday that Bryce Hasseman is set to take over the Cavemen program, pending school board approval. Hasseman won an individual state title in Indiana at Franklin High School in 2000. He wrestled collegiately at the Division I level at Bloomsburg University, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in 2005. Hasseman was a volunteer assistant coach with Division I college powerhouse Oklahoma State the past three years.

To find the school's next head football coach, Elkhart Memorial athletic director Frank Kurth didn't have to look very far. Memorial hired Bill Roggeman to head the program on Thursday. Roggeman was an assistant coach with the Chargers from 2007-09. "I just really had a great experience there," Roggeman told WSBT. "I just really liked it. I like the people. " Kurth told WSBT the things that appealed to him about Roggeman were his experience, familiarity with the area, and the "great job" he did as an assistant.

The sixth and last Mishawaka High School wrestler accused in the sex-type assault on a then 15-year-old teammate two years ago has been found guilty. Five of the six were found guilty or pleaded guilty of various charges in the case. Because all involved were juveniles at the time, none of their names are being released. Former Mishawaka wrestling coach Darrick Snyder resigned this spring. He was not charged in the case.

The 6th and final wrestler in the Mishawaka High School sexual assault case had his trial before a juvenile judge on Thursday. We've learned he was found not guilty of criminal deviant conduct but guilty of misdemeanor battery. The case has remained in juvenile court, so no one has been named. The 6 high school students were charged with trying to sexually assault a teammate 2 years ago. 4 of the 6 have either pleaded guilty or been found guilty so far. One of the wrestlers tried Wednesday is still waiting for the verdict in his case.

It was a difficult Memorial Day weekend for a Mishawaka family after learning their loved one, Sgt. Lucas Oppelt, was critically injured in Afghanistan. Despite severe injuries, Oppelt's family says he is improving and is scheduled to be back in the United States Tuesday night. Lucas' wife, Amy, is pregnant with their second child. They also have a 5-year-old son Peyton and live in North Carolina. Lucas is a graduate of Mishawaka High School. Lucas' sister, Hannah Mapa, says he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device Saturday in Afghanistan where he was serving as a medic with the 82nd Airborne.
