Police say a 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday after they were told that another boy was sexually assaulted by five juveniles at Mishawaka High School between Jan. 1, 2010, and May 31, 2010. The suspect is currently being held at the JJC on charges of criminal deviant conduct and battery. The prosecutor's office is expected to file formal charges against him on Monday, which is when police say they will provide an update on the status of the other four suspects as well.

Some Mishawaka wrestlers, parents and community members plan to rally at Tuesday night's Mishawaka school board meeting to show their support for wrestling coach Darrick Snyder. Mishawaka High School placed Snyder on paid suspension last month after a 17-year-old wrestler told police six teammates sexually assaulted him in February of 2010. Those six teammates face charges. Coach Snyder has not been charged. The superintendent of Mishawaka schools says they are close to wrapping up the internal investigation into the alleged assault.

One of the six Mishawaka High School wrestlers accused of sexually assaulting a team member went to trial today. That 19-year-old's fate is now in the hands of a judge. The Senior Judge Eric Smithburn told the courtroom it will take him two or three days to decide if the teen is guilty of committing the alleged sex assault prosecutors say happened two years ago. Two updates to a story we've been following: The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has filed Attempted Criminal Deviate Conduct charges against six juveniles in relation to an alleged sex assault at Mishawaka High School in 2010. And one of the teens arrested in the case has been released on an electronic tether. This all came to light when the alleged victim filed a report with police earlier this month claiming he had been sexually assaulted in January 2010. He was 15 at the time. A source inside the school tells WSBT the suspects and victim were all teammates on the Mishawaka wrestling team and the alleged incident was hazing gone wrong.

One of those injured Saturday night at the Indiana State Fairgrounds is a young woman from Mishawaka. Caitlyn Kahlenbeck, 21, is still hospitalized in Indianapolis, where officials say she is in critical but stable condition. Kahlenbeck is a graduate of Mishawaka High School and was a student athlete there. She is the daughter of Cpl. Ken Kahlenbeck with Mishawaka police.

Mishawaka High School's wrestling coach is leaving. He's been hired by Brownsburg Community School Corp. as a social studies teacher and assistant wrestling coach. Darrick Snyder has been on paid administrative leave since the scandal broke that a wrestler on his team had been sexually assaulted by some teammates. Four of the six wrestlers charged have either pleaded guilty or been found guilty in this case. Superintendent Terry Barker says Mishawaka's School Board is expected to vote Tuesday to approve Snyder's resignation.

SOUTH BEND - Crowds showed up at the South Bend Regional Airport this afternoon to greet Mishawaka High School sophomore Anna Rohrer, who won the Foot Locker National High School Cross Country Championship in San Diego. On hand were a number of family members, classmates, and team mates to welcome her home. She actually fell during the race but she still managed to finish first. “It's just insane, the whole experience,” Rohrer said. “It's kind of like living your wildest Dream, and so it's been great meeting all the athletes and having my family come along with me and everyone here when getting back.

STATEHOUSE - Mishawaka High School sophomore Anna Rohrer was honored at the Statehouse with a resolution authored by State Representative Dale DeVon (R-Granger). Rohrer was recognized in House Concurrent Resolution 38 for outstanding athletic achievement in the Foot Locker High School Cross Country National Championship. “It was a pleasure to have Anna and her parents visit the Statehouse,” said Rep. DeVon. “Anna is already incredibly accomplished in her academic and athletic career.

MISHAWAKA - Mishawaka High School is celebrating a national champion. Sophomore Anna Rohrer won the Foot Locker National High School Cross Country Championship in San Diego over the weekend. During a pep rally at MHS Monday afternoon, Mayor Dave Wood read a proclamation naming Saturday, December 8 Anna Rohrer Day in the Princess City. She got a little emotional with all the attention. “I was just overwhelmed,” said Rohrer. “I guess I did cry, cause I was not expecting that award the mayor gave me at all. I can't believe all the support and how happy people are for me and our school.

One of the wrestlers found guilty in the Mishawaka High School sex assault case has been sentenced to 6 months of probation, 20 hours of community service and a 60 day suspended sentence. He must also write a letter of apology to the victim. He and five others are accused of trying to sexually assault a teammate two years ago. That is why this is in juvenile court and no names are being released. So far, four of the six wrestlers have either been found guilty or pleaded guilty in the case. This was the first sentencing.
