MISHAWAKA - Restrictions are put in place today on a busy road in Mishawaka. This could slow down your commute to and from work or school this week. The center lanes of Lincolnway West from Ironwood to Byerly Court are closed for sewer maintenance, according to a news release from the city. The work will go from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction during that time. The work is scheduled to wrap up on Friday.

MISHAWAKA - Crews are suspending cleanup work at the site where a chemical leak forced thousands of people in Mishawaka from their homes back in September. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says crews will complete the first phase of their cleanup next week at the Baycote Metal Finishing site. The EPA began a federally-supervised cleanup at the former chrome-plating and metal-finishing plant in May. A fire there began when a contractor placed chemicals too close together.

MISHAWAKA - A fire destroyed the building. Now, a completely new problem at the old RMG Foundry site in Mishawaka - scrappers. WSBT is told there is now a security guard on site 24 hours a day. And we're told by an employee that the security guard has had to keep scrappers out of the building. We also have learned the fire investigator, a state fire marshal, and private investigators won't be back on scene for two weeks. The delay is to make sure everyone who had cars, boats, or RV's in the building has been notified.

MISHAWAKA - A house caught fire in Mishawaka Wednesday morning, and at first, firefighters thought there may have been someone inside. Fortunately, after a search of the home, they didn't find anybody. Shortly before 7:45 a.m., a neighbor saw smoke coming from the home in the 900 block of West Borley Avenue. That's just north of Jefferson Blvd. and two blocks east of Hickory. WSBT's Kristin Bien, who's at the scene, says it turns out the owners were not home at the time, and the fire was almost completely extinguished by 8:15 a.m. There were a few hot spots.

MISHAWAKA -- You now have a new option at mealtime when dining in Mishawaka. Golden Corral opened Monday on the southeast corner of North Main Street and Douglas Road. The restaurant is known for its large buffet, which includes unique dessert offerings such as a chocolate fountain and cotton candy. More than 180 employees were hired to staff the new restaurant. Golden Corral opens at 11 a.m.

Two people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire in Mishawaka Saturday afternoon, Mishawaka fire department said. Dispatch received the call of a fire at the Parkview Terrace apartments in the 600 block of E. 13th street and the fire was out in 20 minutes, a dispatcher said. One person was able to walk out of the building and firefighters had to rescue the second from inside the building.

Truman's, Michiana's most popular gay nightclub, is closing. An employee tells WSBT that Truman's Entertainment Complex is closing because of financial troubles. Truman's, in Mishawaka's 100 Center, has been open for 21 years. Efforts have been made the last few months to raise enough money to keep Truman's open, but they were not successful. The nightclub will officially close June 21.

Mishawaka's chief of police says he was notified of a discrepancy in the time sheets of Corporal Gregory Carr. In a letter to the Board of Public Works and Safety, the chief said an audit found Carr had received both compensatory time and overtime pay at the same time. The chief says an investigation found Carr violated the rules and engaged in immoral conduct and conduct unbecoming an officer. He's asking the board to suspend Carr without pay and then terminate him after a hearing.

The owner of a Mishawaka auto body repair shop in the 1200 block of West 8th Street is expected to survive after shooting himself. St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Commander Tim Corbett said this is being considered an accidental shooting and the victim -- owner of the business, 78-year-old Frank Demske -- is expected to survive. Corbett said Demske heard a noise in the attic of the shop and went to check it out. While he was climbing a ladder, his gun accidentally discharged, hitting him in the face.

This.....is.....Jeopardy! Erin Schmidt of Mishawaka appeared on Jeopardy when it was filmed last October, which aired Monday night. According to Schmidt's website, the St. Joseph High School and Saint Mary's grad took and passed the contestants' qualifying test in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2012. No one answered the final jeopardy question correctly. Schmidt didn't take home the top prize. She ended third, which means she took home $1,000.
