Suspects fired a gun during a home invasion in a Mishawaka apartment complex early this morning, according to police. Fortunately no one was hit, but there were two adults and a 6-year-old child in the apartment. Police say it happened in the 4000 block of Parkwood Circle, in Edison Pointe Apartments. That's just north of Edison Road, near Movies 14. The victim told police three men broke in just before 4 this morning and then started shooting. Police are still investigating.

A teenager who fled to Africa after the murder of an elderly Mishawaka woman pleaded guilty this morning. William Karimu is accused of killing 84-year-old Lois Hickey. Police found Hickey stabbed to death in her home in December of 2011. Investigators say Karimu broke into the home. He grew up one door down. Police in Sierra Leone arrested Karimu last July after DNA evidence matched him to the crime. In court Thursday morning Karimu admitted to breaking into the home.

Police have made an arrest in the murder of an 84-year-old Mishawaka woman killed in late 2011. Lois Hickey was found dead in her home in the 300 block of East Donaldson on Dec. 29 by a neighbor. Tuesday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office confirmed multiple charges have been filed against 19-year-old William Karimu of Mishawaka. Murder charges were actually filed March 2, but were sealed until Karimu could be arrested. He had fled the U.S. to Sierre Leone in Africa.

More than 100 new jobs are coming to Mishawaka with a new restaurant. The three owners of the new Golden Corral broke ground Tuesday and are ready to build the restaurant at the corner of Douglas and Main streets. It will be a family-run business run through the system set up by the national chain, including meals made fresh in the restaurant. The families involved have worked together for years. “Our families are everything to us,” said co-owner Pam Zahrt.

MISHAWAKA - The EPA remains on the scene this weekend in the 1300 block of Industrial Drive with multiple air quality monitoring stations set up all around the area surrounding the old Baycote site where the chemical leak occurred Friday night. EPA spokesman on site, Paul Atkociunas, says the building had a large amount of hazardous chemicals inside, including 4% cyanide solid that mixed with another material.  Workers didn't realize such a reaction would occur at the time the mixing occurred.  Atkociunas calls it "an unfortunate accident.

CLICK HERE FOR A MAP Officers told a WSBT photographer at the scene the lab was found in the basement of an unoccupied apartment in the home. There is no word on arrests at this time. MISHAWAKA -- The heat is affecting a Mishawaka city service. BFI Waste Services began picking up trash an hour earlier today, and they will do the same tomorrow as well. Workers will begin pick-up at 5 a.m., before the hottest part of the day arrives.

An elderly man was hurt in an accident in the 1000 block of Lincoln Way West in Mishawaka just before 7 a.m. Saturday. A Mishawaka dispatcher confirmed that he was taken to the hospital. The dispatcher had no other information about the accident.

MISHAWAKA -- The tenants who were kicked out of the Princess City Apartments last week are considering legal action. They're talking with a lawyer, trying to figure out if someone should pay for the squalid conditions they lived in. “We're in a fact-finding stage at this point,” said John Ulmer, an attorney with Cataldo Law Offices, who met with about a dozen tenants, Thursday afternoon. The meeting was closed to the news media. It's been about a week since the city of Mishawaka condemned the Princess City building on East 12th street.

The crash is under investigation, but we are told alcohol may have been involved...
