INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indiana legislator's proposal for a state law on how the national anthem should be performed won't get a vote this session. The proposal from Republican Sen. Vaneta Becker of Evansville would have required any performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" in any public place performed in its entirety and without embellishment. She had earlier proposed a bill for the state education department to set standards for singing and playing of the national anthem at public schools.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indiana legislator is proposing that the state set standards for singing and playing the national anthem at public schools and universities. The bill filed by Republican state Sen. Vaneta Becker of Evansville calls for the state education department to establish rules on acceptable performances. Becker tells The Indianapolis Star ( http://indy.st/tW8KSW ) that she started working on the proposal after a constituent said she thought a school program in which the words of "The Star-Spangled Banner" were changed was disrespectful.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Christina Aguilera flubbed a line as she belted out the national anthem at the start of the Super Bowl. When she was supposed to sing the line "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?" she instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation. She sang "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming," which is the same line from earlier in the song but with the word 'watched' instead of the word 'hailed.

Something different happened before a baseball game at Goshen College Tuesday. While it may be a tradition at most schools, it was the first time the national anthem was played at Goshen College in more than 100 years. The Goshen College baseball game started out normal enough, but the more than a dozen news cameras and jam-packed bleachers hinted to the fact that something big was about to happen. "I don't think it is a big deal. I think they are putting too much attention on something that is not supposed to be this big," says Goshen College junior Yaneth Springer.
