NEW BUFFALO, Mich. - It's been a staple in downtown New Buffalo for 30 years. Now Casey's Bar and Grill located at 136 N. Whittacker Street in downtown New Buffalo is closed. Patrons are wondering why. The doors of Casey'sl have been locked since January 1. The owners of the building, NB Developers, filed an eviction notice on January 18 against their tenant, Casey owner John Bertuca, a southwest Michigan businessman. According to court documents filed in Berrien County, the landlords claim Bertuca owes more than $86,000 in back rent and unpaid utility bills.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) - A Montana restaurant listed in the phone book under "Animal Carcass Removal" wound up as the butt of a Jay Leno joke earlier this year. But it's no laughing matter to the owner of Bar 3 Bar-B-Q in Bozeman and Belgrade. Hunter Lacey is suing Dex Media Inc., saying business has dropped off and his restaurant's reputation has suffered. The listing first appeared in Dex's 2009 telephone book. It has been reprinted in several other directories, and Leno joked about the listing on the "Headlines" segment of the Tonight Show in January.

No one was seriously injured Sunday when a vehicle went through the front window of a Panera Bread store in Goshen. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department was notified of the call at the store, in the 4500 block of Elkhart Road, about 3:30 p.m. Authorities tell SBT24/7 News that no one was taken to the hospital by ambulance from the scene. Staff at the Panera store said Sunday evening that they were unable to comment on the incident, and referred calls to their corporate public relations staff.

A Cassopolis man is seeing the devastation after Chile's earthquake firsthand. Joseph Westrate owns a four-star restaurant called Zully in Santiago. Westrate graduated from Marcellus High School in 1992. We spoke with him Sunday. He says he was shocked to see the destruction; and many people have lost everything. Watch the video segment to hear Joseph's story.

Diners were evacuated from a popular Michiana restaurant Wednesday night after a small electrical fire started in the basement. The fire at the Carriage House restaurant started about 6:30 p.m., according to a Clay Fire press release. That's when employees first noticed smoke coming from downstairs. Arriving firefighters found the employees had used extinguishers to quickly contain the fire. No one was injured during the incident. The Carriage House remains closed until repairs are completed.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — Fire officials say a bananas foster dessert caught fire at a Florida restaurant and four people were burned, including a woman who had severe injuries. Officials with Palm Harbor Fire Rescue say the 151 alcohol poured into the dessert ignited Saturday night and splashed onto four customers. A 25-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with first- and second-degree burns. A 56-year-old woman also was taken to a hospital with respiratory burns. Two other people were burned but refused medical treatment.

UPDATE: As of 7:30 a.m. Friday, those injured in the crash (Emily Shields, child; Nicole Shields and Judy Roberts) have all been released from Goshen General Hospital after receiving treatment for their injuries. An SUV crashed into an Applebee's Thursday night, sending glass and food flying across the restaurant. The driver said she's embarrassed by the accident. It happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Applebee's on 1807 Reith Blvd., just off U.S. 33. Police and firefighters quickly flooded the restaurant in Goshen where an SUV drove into a restaurant full of people.

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder for repeatedly stabbing an 8-year-old boy who was playing video games at a New York restaurant arcade. An apologetic Evan Sachs also pleaded guilty to assault on Wednesday in Nassau County Court. The judge said he would sentence Sachs to 14 years in prison on Sept. 8. Police said Sachs had been stalking potential young victims at shopping malls for weeks before the stabbing last October.

A restaurant in Van Buren County east of Paw Paw was damaged by a fire early Sunday morning. Mattawan Fire Chief Terron McLean said crews quickly gained control of the blaze at Mancino’s, 51260 N. Main St., Mattawan, after arriving at 3:30 a.m., soon after being dispatched. “A few more minutes and it would have been quite involved,” he said Sunday morning. He said crews cleared the scene at 5:31 a.m. A maintenance worker saw smoke from the vents and heavy smoke from a doorway and called 911, McLean said.

The St. Joseph County Health Department has temporarily closed a downtown South Bend restaurant because of health concerns.  A recent health inspection at Vesuvio's Pizza revealed a number of critical violations, including some repeat offenses. St. Joseph County health inspectors visited Vesuvio's Pizza on the night of November 19 th , after they received a complaint that the downtown South Bend restaurant was filthy.  In the inspection, they found the customer’s complaint was valid.

ROSELAND - A federal jury has found the owner of the American Pancake House in Roseland guilty of sexual harassment, battery and retaliation. 3 employees filed complaints against Nick Kladis. The jury awarded Angela Heyne punitive damages of $12,000 for her claims, and Angela King was awarded the same amount. However, Stacy DeVreese was not awarded anything. The jury supported Kladis in that complaint. A hearing in the future will be set to determine what will happen with back wages.

GRANGER - A popular Granger restaurant extends an olive branch to nursing mothers after an incident last Sunday left many of them outraged. A customer complained about a woman breastfeeding her child in the dining area. That's when an employee stepped in. Managers wouldn't say what was said between the two, but we do know that the mother got upset and left. State law says women can breastfeed in any public or private area. Restaurant managers say they recognize that right and showed it with a special event.

SOUTH BEND -- A popular 24-hour restaurant must change the way it treats its employees, especially women, after a discrimination lawsuit. Nick's Patio recently agreed to pay a former employee thousands of dollars to make up for what happened when her managers found out she was going to have a baby. “It just kind of got around the restaurant that I was pregnant and then my hours got cut,” said Tiffany Williams, who worked at Nick's as a hostess in 2010. Williams said her paycheck was cut in half, and then she was fired.

SOUTH BEND - Police fired shots in the parking lot of a well-known west side South Bend restaurant while trying to stop a suspected drug dealer. Captain Phil Trent of the South Bend Police Department says officers with the Metro Special Operations Section called the South Bend police dispatch center shortly before noon, saying officers had fired at a vehicle in a parking lot on the southwest corner of Western Ave. and Mayflower Rd. That was at the Top Notch Restaurant. While conducting an undercover investigation into drug sales, police were trying to stop a suspect who was in a black sedan in the parking lot. That suspect late Tuesday afternoon was identified as 34-year-old Walter Wilbourn.

SOUTH BEND -- It's a move that could add more tension to a standoff between South Bend and a downtown business owner. Jersey Mike's is still open in the former College Football Hall of Fame building. The hall of fame left South Bend in December for its new home in Atlanta, Ga. But shop owner Bob Guros tells us that the city won't give him a key to his sandwich shop -- so a keyholder has to unlock the door for workers in the morning and lock up at night. Guros says it's a clumsy process.

Scotty's Brewhouse, a small Indiana restaurant chain established in 1996, may be coming to Mishwaka. A Pots & Pans Production, the parent company, has signed a letter of intent to open a Scotty's in June, 2013 in Fort Wayne and April, 2013 in Mishawaka.
