Police are looking for whoever tried to rob a South Bend video store on Tuesday night. The unsuccessful robbery attempt happened about 10:20 p.m. at the Hollywood Video in the 2200 block of South Bend Avenue. City 911 dispatch said money was demanded from the clerk, but there was no immediate word on whether a weapon was used. No one was injured, and no one has been arrested in the case.

Several masked men robbed a Cash 4 Gold store in Elkhart Thursday  evening, according to an Elkhart police dispatcher. Either three or four masked men carrying large shot guns went into a Cash 4 Gold store in the 100 block of W. Hively Ave. in Elkhart, the dispatcher said. The call came in at 5:58 p.m. No shots were fired and no one was injured, the dispatcher said. Police were still on scene at 6:30 and it was not immediately known how much was taken.

SOUTH BEND - A pair of men were hospitalized on Wednesday during separate robbery and attempted robberies, adding to a recent uptick in such crime in the city. In the first case, reported at 11:30 a.m., a 36-year-old man told police two or three men used a bat or stick to rob him of his watch and money, police said. Police said the victim, who appeared intoxicated, walked into a business in the 2700 block of Western Avenue to seek help. He was reportedly bleeding from the head and later taken to an area hospital with a cut on his head and a bump on his leg. In the other case, a 24-year-old man told police he was hit in the forehead with a gun in the 1300 block of Lincoln Way West about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

ELKHART - Police say they have arrested a suspect in a robbery at a CVS store in Elkhart early Thursday morning. Elkhart police received a robbery call around 6:23 a.m. from a CVS store located in the 900 block of East Bristol Street. Police have arrested Ronald Callahan, 43, of Elkhart for the robbery and possession of a controlled substance. Stay with WSBT.com for updates as they become available.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY -- St. Joseph County Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday night at the Family Video store in the 51000 block of State Road 933. Police say a suspect entered the store around 11:00 p.m. Monday and demanded money from the store clerk. A weapon was not displayed but the victim saw what she thought was the handle of a gun in the suspect’s pocket. After getting cash, the suspect left northbound from the store on foot. South Bend Police dispatched a K-9 unit at the scene to track the suspect.

Elkhart Police have released surveillance pictures obtained from the June 29 robbery at Elkhart Diamonds and Gold. Investigators have described the two suspects as black males, between the ages of 18 and 25 and about 5’10”. One suspect is described with a medium build and the other around 160 pounds.  Police are also looking for an older-style, four-door, black Crown Victoria that may have also been involved. Anyone with information should contact the Elkhart Police Department.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego police say surveillance tape shows a person dressed like Gumby telling a convenience store clerk he is being robbed, fumbling inside the costume as if to pull a gun, dropping 27 cents and leaving. Police say the attempted robbery took place Monday at a 7-Eleven in Rancho Penasquitos, Calif. Detective Gary Hassen tells San Diego's 10News the clerk never heard of Gumby. He described the character as a green SpongeBob SquarePants.

Police have captured a man suspected in an armed robbery of a Cass County laundromat on Friday. A car belonging to 39-year-old Edward Payson Wing was spotted Monday afternoon by police. He is believed to be responsible for the robbery of the Hilltop Laundry in Union last week. After being spotted, Wing drove his car into a cornfield then ran away in the area of Walnut Road near Sears Street in Calvin Twp . Michigan State Police deployed a helicopter and two K-9 units to look for him. He was arrested early Tuesday morning.

ELKHART - A teenager is due in court Tuesday after Elkhart police arrested him for robbing a convenience store. Officers were called to Saleh's Market on Middlebury Street Monday morning. Employees say someone used a knife to rob the store. A K-9 unit tracked the suspect to a nearby apartment complex.

A robber told a worker at a Mishawaka store he needed money for his kids, so he robbed the business. A suspect for that crime and others is now in jail this morning. Police arrested 25-year-old Christopher J. Williams Wednesday afternoon. Police say Williams admitted to a rash of armed robberies in Mishawaka and South Bend. A hair salon and a clothing store were robbed within 24 hours of each other earlier this week. His & Hers Family Hair Care has been around for about seven years, but what happened Tuesday was a first.

BENTON HARBOR - Police are looking for a man who fired a gunshot in a Benton Harbor taxi and robbed the cab driver. Officers were called to the 100 block of Bellview St. around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. They found the cab driver who had run from the scene after the shot was fired. The cab driver described the suspect as a black man, about 5'10”, 180-190 pounds, wearing black clothes and armed with a handgun. The taxi driver said he was dispatched to the area to pick up a person and when arriving, the suspect got into his cab, pulled a gun and demanded money from the driver.

LA PORTE - A man Tuesday allegedly robbed a La Porte credit union then fled but was captured when he crashed his vehicle. ELKHART - Two robberies occurred within minutes apart.  At 11:15 p.m., police responded to a call from The Hampton Inn located at 215 North Pointe Blvd.  According to Elkhart police, two men entered the business demanding money using a weapon.  The suspects fled with a considerable amount of money. At 11:39, Yoder Truck Stop located at 1125 Kent St. reported a robbery where three men demanded money, one holding a weapon.  The three suspects fled the scene with cash, tobacco products, and electronic equipment.

ELKHART - An Elkhart man is behind bars for robbing the Chiphone Federal Credit Union in the 1600 block of W. Beardsley Ave. The Chiphone robbery took place on December 13. Police say 27-year-old Christopher Coleman is charged with Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. They have also named a second person of interest - 26-year-old Shawn Marks of Elkhart. Coleman is being held in jail on $75,000 bond, while detectives are asking anyone with information on Marks or the robbery to call Sergeant Jim Buchmann or Detective Mark Daggy.

DETROIT (AP) - A 31-year-old suburban Detroit man accused of sexually assaulting and robbing three women in Detroit since September is being held on a $2 million bond. Gabreil Cooper of Warren was arraigned Friday in Detroit district court on numerous charges and faces a preliminary examination has been scheduled on Jan. 29. Authorities accuse Cooper of raping and robbing a woman who was walking down a street on Sept. 26 and another woman shoveling snow on Dec. 29. Wayne County prosecutors also say he assaulted and robbed a woman Jan. 14 who invited him to her house after they met online.

TOPEKA - Police in LaGrange County are alerting people of a dangerous situation. Around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, a person was approached by an armed man at the Topeka Livestock Auction. The suspect demanded cash and left on foot after getting some money. Police believe the robber fled from a nearby business in a navy blue mid 90s Ford Ranger, standard cab pick-up truck, and was accompanied by a woman. The truck was last seen leaving Topeka headed cast on C.R. 700 S. in  reckless manner.

NILES, Mich. - Niles police are investigating five armed robberies, all at two Admiral gas stations in the city. Investigators say a gunman walked into the Admiral at 640 Chicago Rd. around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and pointed his weapon at the store clerk, demanding money. The suspect got some loot and ran from the business. It's the fourth time that Admiral has been robbed in less than two months. That same gas station was held up Saturday, December 8 around 10 p.m., October 20 and October 15. The October 20 heist was the only time two gunman robbed the store.

MISHAWAKA - Investigators hope surveillance video from two separate armed robberies will help catch a man they believe was involved in both.  Even though the suspect's face is difficult to see, officers believe his voice on the video might be recognized by the public and help them catch him, said Assistant Mishawaka Police Chief Daniel Gebo.   The first armed robbery happened at the Mr. Fresh Convenience Store in the 700 block of West Jefferson Blvd. in Mishawaka around 6:45 Monday night.
