SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Herring gulls feasting on fish in the Saginaw River are pelting Saginaw City Hall with droppings. One city official tells The Saginaw News (http://bit.ly/shc1Ht) that some people are carrying umbrellas to shield themselves from the aerial barrage. Gull droppings also are hitting other buildings, cars, trucks, sidewalks and people. The area's unusually warm weather may be behind the large numbers of gizzard shad providing meals for the gulls.

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Police say a 17-year-old accidentally fatally shot himself while playing with a gun during a celebration of the arrival of the New Year in Saginaw. The Saginaw News reports ( http://bit.ly/tWd4o1 ) Travon E. Price died after being shot in the head early Sunday. Police say he was playing with the gun inside his home after he and his 18-year-old brother had been outside firing into the air to mark the New Year. Police say Price didn't believe there were any bullets still in the revolver.

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — Police say they have no idea why someone left a bag full of animal hearts and chicken feet at the bottom of a fresh grave in Saginaw. Detective Sgt. Joseph Dutoi tells The Saginaw News the gallon food storage bag contained spoiling hearts and other organs from various species of animals in something that appeared to be barbecue sauce. Dutoi says he can't explain "why people do some of the things they do. " Workers at Forest Lawn Cemetery made the discovery and reported it to Saginaw police on Tuesday afternoon.

BRANT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in Michigan were forced to shoot and kill a 300-pound wild pig outside a home about 90 miles northwest of Detroit. Saginaw County Sheriff's Sgt. Randy Pfau (FAUGH) tells The Saginaw News for a story Wednesday that it took two rounds from a 12-gauge shotgun to bring down the pig. The homeowner called deputies after seeing the pig rooting up his lawn Tuesday evening. Pfau says the pig had tusks coming out "of the side of its mouth" and as deputies moved closer the animal charged.

ZILWAUKEE, Mich. (AP) - A runaway rooster remains at large after eluding a Michigan State Police trooper and taking a leap from a bridge. The Saginaw News reports ( http://bit.ly/o1IV88 ) that the trooper spent part of Thursday morning pursuing the barnyard bird along the Zilwaukee Bridge on Interstate 75, about 85 miles northwest of Detroit. State police say the concern was the rooster causing a wreck or becoming road kill. Trooper Randy Kahn says another officer on the bridge described the culprit as a "big, fat, juicy rooster" that wouldn't let him catch it. Before help arrived the rooster went over the bridge, landing safely in a shallow area before scampering toward the Crow Island State Game Area.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - A 35-year-old East Orange, N.J., man has been found dead in the Isabella County Jail in Mount Pleasant. The Saginaw News reports ( http://bit.ly/nALStg ) that Bradford Gibson was found unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse about 3 a.m. Saturday in the facility about 60 miles north of Lansing. Gibson had been arrested about an hour earlier by police in Mount Pleasant for being a disorderly person, resisting a police officer and aggravated assault on an officer.

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the suspicious death of a woman near the end of her pregnancy whose body was found in Saginaw County. Officials haven't released the victim's name, but the owner of an industrial supply company tells The Saginaw News ( http://j.mp/pRXZmM ) that she was one of his employees, Jenny Webb of Bridgeport Township. Jim Terry owns P.F. Markey Inc. and says Webb was increasingly excited about the impending birth of her first child, who was due within a month.

BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A woman fixing an outdoor Christmas decoration found a wedding ring lost years ago by the home's former owner. The story gets better: Kathy English of Bangor Township in Bay County found the ring just a day before the couple's 42nd wedding anniversary. The Saginaw News (http://bit.ly/zY6DvU) says the ring belongs to Luke Stephan (STEF'-un), who left the Bay City area with wife Carole in the late 1990s and now lives in Ann Arbor.

MOUNT FOREST TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 69-year old mid-Michigan man who was run over by a farm tractor remains in critical condition. Bay County Sheriff deputies tell WSGW-AM that Richard Dillan was standing next to the tractor in a barn about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when it slipped into gear and the vehicle's rear tire struck him in Mount Forest Township. Dillan was flown by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. An investigation is ongoing.

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A motorcycle stunt man who plunged 25 feet to the ground during a circus performance said Monday he'll ride again after he recovers from a broken leg and other injuries. "It's all I do. It's how I make a living," Josh Headford, 20, told The Associated Press before he was taken in to surgery. Headford's motocross bike hit a cable Sunday at the Shrine Circus in Saginaw. Spectators were stunned as he crashed to the floor at the Dow Event Center.

SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - The mother of a mentally ill man who was fatally shot by Saginaw police said Monday night that the fight for her son's justice will continue even though prosecutors aren't filing charges against the officers involved. Jewell Hall spoke during public forum at a local church that was organized to discuss the death of 49-year-old Milton Hall, who was shot 11 times by police in a parking lot on July 1. Police have said Hall refused to drop a knife, and that 46 rounds were fired by six officers.
